Xiaomi Mi 11X5G Review: Full Specs and Features

The Xiaomi Mi 11X was launched on April 2021, as one of the many smartphones that is within the budget segment. Being a mid-range offering from Xiaomi, the Mi 11X comes with varieties of modern features to keep its users entertained all day.

Its appearance is simple unique with a sizable camera at the back that attracts attention as it comes with a 2 step protruding design and a silver ring around it.

The thin bezels, a small notch, and a glossy glass back make the simple Mi 11X look sleek and comfortable.

The device is designed with three different colors to go with and are cosmic Black, Lunar White, and Celestial Silver.

Specification

The Mi 11X comes with a 6.67-inch screen which explains why the device is pretty lengthy and wide, but average in terms of thickness and weight at 7.8mm and 196g respectively.

The 6.67-inch AMOLED panel has a Full-HD+ (1080×2400) resolution, 120Hz maximum refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate, and HDR10+ with a 1300nit peak brightness rating. Colour reproduction is said to be 100 percent of the DCI-P3 gamut.

There’s also support for MEMC motion smoothing which is said to potentially make low-framerate content look more fluid, as well as AI-based HDR enhancement.

The Mi 11X comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset that offers 6GB or 8GB LPDDR5 memory. Regardless of which you pick, you will be getting 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage with no further expansion.

Xiaomi Mi 11X is powered by a 4,520mAh battery which is expected to give up to 11 hours of gaming per charge. Within an hour of charging, the 33W fast charger that comes with the device supporting the USB-PD and Qualcomm Quick Charge standards delivers a full charge.

The Xiaomi Mi 11X runs on MIUI 12.0.3 and was to be updated to 12.0.4 during the review period. This is based on Android 11.

Network and connectivity

The Mi 11X made provision for two Nano-SIM slots but no provision for microSD storage expansion. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, hotspot, and multiple navigation systems including NavIC, but no NFC comes with the Mi 11X.

A haptic motor provides physical feedback for gestures and taps. One potential minor inconvenience is that the USB port works only at USB 2.0 speed for data transfers. A dual-band A-GPS, GLONASS, and BDS are also available.

Camera & Interface

The Xiaomi Mi 11 maintains the triple camera system on the back with a 48-megapixel primary camera having a Sony IMX582 sensor and f/1.79 aperture, an 8-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide camera, and a 5-megapixel “telemacro” camera with 2X zoom.

The Mi 11X selfies front camera comes with a 20-megapixel resolution and f/2.45 aperture.
A lot of advanced features have been added to boost the performance of these cameras.

The main wide camera with its sony IMX582 sensor can record up to 4k 30fps of videos. Its drawback is that it has undersaturated colors with the Al mode disabled.

Secondly, the amount of light in the scene strangely gets darkened similar to the bleach bypass effect. This mostly happens indoors, where objects and especially skin tones tend to look darker and lifeless.

Another problem is with the dynamic range in the image which is always less impressive with inadequately exposed highlight and shadows.

Good detailing in the image even though with a 12MP image. But the inactive HDR on the phone also calls for concerns

The main wide camera handles zooming on the Mi 11X. The 2x zoom mode seems to take a straightforward 1:1 pixel crop from the center of the 48MP sensor so the results are quite usable. Beyond that, the image softens considerably and becomes steadily less usable.

The 8MP ultra-wide camera with 15mm equivalent f2.2 lens has a more decent color performance that comes out sharper and vibrant than the main wide camera. Though its resolution is insufficient hence images lack detailing

Manually switching to night mode works better since the device isn’t that quick to switch by itself. Xiaomi’s night mode is quite lacking behind its rivals. The worst of all the low light performance is ultrawide. With unusable images and unrecognize subjects.

The 5MP macro camera turned out to be pretty decent. The issue with these cameras usually is that even if you have the novelty of the perspective, the image quality itself is rather poor.

The Mi 11X macro camera with its autofocus has good and useable images. It’s worthy of note that the main camera, the ultra-wide camera, and the macro camera all can record videos on the Mi 11X.

Sensor

The Mi 11X uses the following sensors Fingerprint (side-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, color spectrum, and barometer

Summary

The Mi 11X is a strong contender in the smartphone market though not in all aspect as it camera performance isn’t too good for those who very concern about camera quality.

Impressively, the main wide camera, the ultra-wide and the macro can record videos. The 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with Full-HD+ (1080×2400) resolution, makes gaming and photography most enjoyable.

Running MIUI 12.0.3 on top of Android 11 carries a lot of the iOS influence from previous versions, with most skins changing to Android itself. The home screen, for example, still has the fixed square icons.

Its battery power of 4,520mAh, durability, and fast charging give rise to a device that is trying to break even into the smartphone world.

Overall, the Mi 11X puts up a fantastic performance with features that beats that of its competitors with a pocket-friendly price tag.
